Pastor Matt Brunk

Matt grew up going to church and hearing the Gospel often. On several occasions he feared going to hell so he prayed a “sinner’s prayer.” It wasn’t until April 23, 2001 during a family devotion time that he truly understood the Gospel. He finally understood it was not just praying a prayer. It was completely trusting in Jesus alone (what He did through His death, burial, and resurrection as God) to be saved.

 

A few years later, Matt surrendered his life to God with a passion for missionary work. During that time God placed on his heart the thought that people go to vacation in Hawaii, but who is reaching the local people?

God honored that genuine burden as a young teenager and directed Matt’s steps to serve full-time in Hawaii as soon as he graduated from Bible college in 2013. After 4 years of serving as a youth pastor at Ohana Baptist Church (Oahu, HI) God began directing him to minister and start a church in Maui. As a result, the Reach Maui Ministry was founded.

 

After traveling (with his wife and daughter) over 90,000 miles across the continental U.S. to raise financial support for his family and the ministry, Matt settled on Maui in 2020. Since then he has lived to fulfill this ministry’s vision and mission with the help of generous partners who give to support his family and this ministry.
